There may be a boating club that suits you in your area. If not, start your own from the nucleus of you and your friends. As you get together and have fun, more people of like minds will naturally gravitate towards your group.

As you make new friends, collect their contact information and start organizing the outings that you have in mind. An email address list or even a yahoo groups website might be good ideas to schedule, communicate, organize and coordinate the events.

Pretty much if you have a few friends who share your passion then you can formalise it and gain the benefits of an organised structure, and a united voice when talking to authorities about your activities and getting insurance etc.

Go with the other post on contacting already existing groups – easier to learn what is needed to run a club inside a well run one.

Run a add at the local sporting store and “shopper” newspapers.

Go to the United States Power Squadron’s website. The “Power Squadron’s website will tell you if they have a chapter already going in your area.

what they are is a boating safety group, who have regular meetings, get-togethers, raft-offs, and many social functions. I belong to one in Berea, Ohio, and they are all wonderful people there.
