If the time has come to replace some of the current boat accessories or to stock up on some new instruments, it can be helpful to know where to get good prices on that new kit.

First, check out the store at the marina where you like to keep the boat. Often, they will have a selection of boating equipment, that will be ideal for the size and type of boats that accommodate the facility. Keep in mind that while the selection may be plentiful, you will pay top dollar at these locations. However, if convenience is more important than saving money, this is a quick and easy solution.

A second and slightly more cost effective place to look is at sporting goods stores that stock boating equipment. Often, the selection in these stores will be less specialized, but this should not be a problem in most instances. You can still find boat kit that will do the job, and pay less than at the more exclusive marina stores.

If there is nothing in the area that seems to meet your needs, then there is always online shopping. Plenty of internet stores will stock boats, parts & accessories, and you can easily shop at your convenience. Bookmark several selections that are what you have in mind, then do some comparison on price and quality. Also, check for offers on free shipping. Depending on the cost of the goods, you may be able to not only get a good price, but also not have to pay postage and handling on the order.

Don’t forget auction sites as a possible source for all sorts of boating paraphernalia. Many people purchase huge lots of goods on closeout, and then resell the items online. There is every chance that you can find boat accessories that are just what you want and at an excellent auction price.

In this Pontoon Boat Accessories article we will be focusing on the importance of winterizing your boat and the 5 general areas involved in this process. Winterizing is the equivalent of spring cleaning for your home, yet it is done 6 months earlier and also involves some very essential preventive maintenance to protect from the cold weather and an extended period of inactivity. The five areas are as follows:

Cleaning

Engine and Lower Unit

Fresh and Waste Water

Cabin and Interior

Inspection and Covering

Cleaning is done from the inside out, from the head to the topside, from the cabin to the hull. The better you clean and polish the better protected your boat will be and the less you have to do to launch come Spring.

The engine and lower unit prep are the most important part of the winterizing process and involve steps done in this particular order:

Top off your fuel, add a fuel stabilizer and replace your fuel filter and water separator

Winterize the block with antifreeze (anti-toxic, sometimes called marine antifreeze)

Fog the combustion chamber

Change the oil

Change the lower unit fluid

Conduct a visual inspection of the entire power train

The freshwater and waste systems need to be completely drained or pumped out and then the entire systems need to be flushed with antifreeze.

Winterizing the cabin and interior involves taking preventative measures to minimize moisture which leads to mold and mildew. Don’t forget to pump out the bilge and pour in some antifreeze to flush the lines and pump housing. Also remove the batteries fully charged and depending on where you store your boat, you may want to remove any electronics that can be easily stolen.

Finally, properly cover your boat with a high quality boat cover or tarp that is fastened securely but loose enough to allow for proper air circulation. Support the cover with a cover support pole to prevent water-pooling. The last thing you will do is inspect the environment and the storage device you are using to store your boat. Make sure everything is structurally sound and free from the possibility of damaging your vessel.

Hope this Pontoon Boat Accessories article is helpful.

Let’s face it ladies, we don’t understand how the fellows in our lives look at fishing as a pastime. We get manicures and pedicures, go on lunch outings with friends, and take in a shopping trip or a nice leisurely walk for relaxation and rejuvenation. For the gentlemen, what constitutes as pastime is a little perplexing. How can sitting on a boat, casting a line and waiting countless hours for a fish to potentially bite the line be considered fun or relaxing? For the avid fisherman, his boat, fishing pole, boat accessories and the various baits provide hours of entertainment and the peace and quiet they desire. While we might understand the peace and quiet aspect of the outing, we consider the preparation tedious for an event that might not even result in bringing home a fish.

For the avid fisherman, the pastime of fishing is more like a passion as they collect bragging rights as to what kind of fish they caught and how long and heavy that fish might be. Trying out new coves and areas on a pond or river provide enough of a challenge to make the pastime interesting and entertaining. Getting into the great outdoors and communing with nature are an added bonus for a fisherman who seeks alone time or time with his child or friend. Fishing as a sport might be left to the professionals; for a fisherman, as a hobby, is more about getting into nature and finding time to quiet the brain.

A fishing hobbyist collects various baits to try, fishing sonar scanning tools to locate the biggest fish and other boat accessories to make his fishing experience more precise. The trial and error of fishing accessories is part of the fun for the fisherman. What bait works in certain depths of water, or with certain types of fish, makes the challenge of fishing more fulfilling. Sonar transmissions are designed to show where the fisherman is compared to the bottom of the pond and where the fish are located in a particular area. Boat accessories including radio and life jackets are necessary when embarking upon a fishing expedition. Many fishermen have a portable live well for their fresh catches so they can keep their fish alive until they are off the water. Boats need to be stocked with a variety of rods and reels for different type of fishing. And every boat needs to be equipped with a cooler for water, sodas, snacks and other adult refreshments a fishermen might need while out of the water on a leisurely afternoon.

Over the past few years, the hobby of fishing has seen advancements in available equipment. Once only available on a professional level, the cost of many fishing accessories have come down enough that an average fisherman can afford and enjoy the benefits of those advancements. Sonar and GPS systems are relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of a boat and other available equipment. These types of systems have improved the quality and precision of the fishing experience.

Fishing provides an excellent retreat from daily life with the quiet offered by the water. With a boat, a fisherman can escape from the hectic schedule of life to the tranquil waters of a pond or lake. Equipped with an onslaught of fishing and boating accessories, he can sit back, cast his line, pop open the beverage of his choice and relax until the fish bite. Whether he tries new fishing hole or returns to a favorite spot, the adventure of fishing helps relax and calm him. Once he has caught a few live ones, he can return home to the chaos he so tried to escape.

Andy West is a writer on a variety of topics, including sport fishing. Having the right boating accessories makes a fishing outing much more enjoyable and fruitful.

Having a well stocked boat will ensure that your boating experience is not only fun and convenient, but also safe. The right marine accessories can enhance your trip with the comforts of home. Accessories range from basic safety precautions, to high end and luxury items. Some accessories may also be used off of the boat as well, for camping or general every day use. The price range for these items range from inexpensive to quite pricey depending on the type of accessory.

Safety is of utmost importance when boating. There are many accessories that are imperative to maintaining safety on a boat. Marine accessories like life jackets are a requirement when out on the water. Navigational accessories like compasses, a GPS, and navigational systems are important for travelling on the boat. Clothing like boat shoes will keep boaters from slipping on the deck, and rain gear is imperative for storms that may pop up. A clock is very useful when boating, especially those that incorporate tides in the display. Weather accessories can help boaters to avoid impending storms or wait a storm out. A marine radio is handy to contact the Coast Guard if a vessel is in distress. Other accessories like propellers, buoys, anchors and roping are all necessary for the normal operation of a boat.

Other marine accessories have dual purposes – practicality and fun. Items like door mats can express personal style and sentiment, while still being a practical way to discourage slipping and sliding from wet shoes. Items like coolers, toasters, coffee makers and barbecue grills are handy ways to cook and eat while boating. Some more luxurious appliances like blenders may be used if a boat has the space to allow additional items. Items like ladders can make entering the water from the boat an easy task. Marine accessories like water skis, wake boards and rafts are fun additions to the boating experience for many people. Boats with cabins can use accessories like bedding, pillows, towels and shower supplies for the comfort of guests. Some accessories are purely for fun, like specialty lights or boating attire customized with the vessel name.

Boat covers offer protection to both the interior and exterior of a craft, and are therefore seen as invaluable purchases. There are a variety of pontoon boat covers to choose from – those that are designed to offer basic storage protection, to those built to protect a pontoon on the highway, or to offer the strongest protection throughout the off-season.

The type of cover to be purchased will depend on a variety of factors – lay-up location (in or outside), the local weather conditions, and the duration that the craft will remain laid up out of commission.

If looking to protect the pontoon from sun damage, look towards a cover that’s UV treated. If stored outside for the lay-up season, and rains expected, its wise to seek out a cover that’s water-resistant and unaffected by mildew. If a craft is expected to remain outside for long-term storage, its often best to locate the heaviest boat fabric possible.

The fabric of the cover is crucial to how well the pontoon boat is going to be protected. Polyester is the strongest of the materials, and is extremely tough and durable. Polyester-cotton is also a high quality choice, able to repel water, durable, yet still breathable. While cotton is likely to be the first to show signs of abrasions and tears.

Boat covers that offer the most protection are those that enclose the entire craft. These complete covers need to fit the exact dimension of the vessel to ensure a tight and snug fit. Reliable pontoon boat covers are likely, in most cases to prevent half the damage that would be caused to a craft that is left exposed to the elements.
